Future Hope

an initiative of Food for the Hungry

Mission Statement

Future Hope Special Needs Children’s Services exists to assist the local church to be God’s hands, feet, and voice to the “least of these” - abandoned, disabled children. Proclaiming and demonstrating truth and love, His people show a watching world the heart of God.

Medical/Foster Care

Today in China, most children who are abandoned have a mental or physical disability or have congenital problems such as cleft palates, heart problems or hydrocephaly. After Future Hope provides medical care for a particular child, placing the child in a loving foster home is vital to his or her development. Since 1992, hundreds of abandoned children have been cared for by loving Future Hope foster families. These children receive the love and care needed for healthy development until they are adopted locally or internationally. The program is now run by local believers in full cooperation with the cities’ orphanages. Empowering local citizens to take responsibility for their communities’ needs is one of Future Hope’s core convictions.

Special Education

Special education for disabled children is a new field in China. There are few alternatives in China’s vast education system for children with special needs . . . especially those who have been abandoned. Future Hope is helping to pioneer the way to provide education for children with cerebral palsy, autism, and mental or physical disabilities. This huge challenge is taken on by the local church as individuals patiently learn and apply the skills needed to educate, love and care for these children. Their healthy development is key to finding them an adoptive or foster family.

Physical Therapy

Without parents, disabled abandoned children have no one to stand up for them and provide the persistent physical therapy needed to overcome the challenges they face in life. Future Hope trains local Christians in physical and occupational therapy skills in order to help the “least of these” have more of a future than just lying in bed or sitting in a chair all of their lives.

These heroes know that their own efforts are limited; therefore, they daily – with the children – welcome the Lord to be a part of the healing process taking place. God uses them to transform lives through their persistence, love, and faith.

About Future Hope

Future Hope began in 1992 when an American family living in China responded to a need that was before them: the huge population of abandoned children. Through the years, the one thing that stands out most about Future Hope is the heroes: local believers. These folks are simple, everyday people who have devoted their lives to being God’s hands, feet, and voice as advocates for the “least of these.” They bring to these children and to a watching world an example of what Christ did for us. Before we know Christ we are orphaned, in need of an advocate – someone to pick us up out of our sin, cleanse us and make us His own. Christ becomes our Advocate. He takes up for us and meets our needs. Unless He takes the initiative to reach out and save us, we have no hope.
