Challenge the Culture Here. End the Crisis There.

“From the beginning, we've known there was something compelling about recognizing that we [Americans] spend more than $80 billion on items meant to enhance our outward appearance, such as diets, cosmetic surgery, fancy creams and makeup,” says Constance Rhodes, co-founder of true:shift. “We buy those things to fill certain emotional hungers, but since those hungers can't be filled long-term by such things, we remain hungry, which means we're essentially throwing our money away.” In response, true:shift exists to promote two things … truth and a shift.

Truth: challenge the culture here.

The truth is that we all are made in the image of God. We must challenge our cultural ideals of identity and beauty, instead focusing on the freedom we truly have to be who Christ made us to be … and to impact this world.

Shift: end the crisis there.

Since we all are made in the image of God, we can joyfully shift our resources away from ourselves and invest in the lives of our struggling sisters and brothers! Specifically, true:shift has begun a partnership with the rural community of El Gade, in northern Kenya.

true:shift

true:shift and El Gade will walk side-by-side to overcome physical and spiritual poverty – challenging the culture here and ending the crisis there. In El Gade, a young woman’s life is shaped by hard labor and long hours. She is valued much less than a man, and she may be married as young as age 10. Few girls are able to receive an education.

true:shift will find sponsors for about 50 children in El Gade, ensuring their education and helping bring the truth of the Gospel into their lives. Sponsorship gives children a chance at a healthy, hopeful future. Will you be a sponsor?

The end goal is to have a tangible, measurable result to our efforts of ‘shifting’ dollars, energy and passion from things that enhance our outside appearance to things that will change us from the inside out.
