Hunger Corps Application and Candidacy Process
If you are interested in serving on the field with us as a Hunger Corps, below are the steps of the application and candidacy process:
Step 1 – APPLY ONLINE:
To view our current positions for Hunger Corps, please go to: www.fh.org/help/individuals/jobs and click on “Jobs by Category.” Then click on “Hunger Corps/Support Raising” and you will be provided with a list of our current Hunger Corps openings. If you identify an opening that interests you based on your calling and qualifications, please submit your resume and online application.
Step 2 – CONTACT WITH A FH REPRESENTATIVE:
Once your have applied online and if you meet the minimum job and Hunger Corps profile qualifications, you will be contacted by a Hunger Corps representative. We will then begin walking with you to learn more about your God-given calling and to discuss your potential fit with FH. Please see www.fh.org/help/individuals/hc/calling for an explanation of basic Hunger Corps qualifications. Specific job qualifications are listed for each job on the site listed under step one above.
Step 3 – SCREENING AND INTERVIEWING:
Based on the initial contact with a Hunger Corps Representative, you may be invited to discuss further position details with the country director in your anticipated field of service.
Step 4 – REFERENCES:
If together with the country director and Hunger Corps representative a good match is identified, you will be asked to provide references from your pastor, employer, mentor, etc.
Step 5 – HUNGER CORPS BASIC TRAINING:
Once your references have been contacted, you will then be invited to a three-day basic training workshop held in our Phoenix office in Arizona. During these few days you will receive an in-depth overview of Food for the Hungry’s vision and mission along with our Biblical approach to development work in Third-World communities.
Step 6 – LETTER OF INTENT:
Following Hunger Corps Basic Training, if you and Food for the Hungry are in mutual agreement to continue move toward candidacy, we will solidify your placement and name you as a Candidate to an overseas field. You will then be presented with a letter of intent stating the anticipated field arrival/start date, your budget for the amount of support to be raised, and other general terms of employment with Food for the Hungry.
Step 7 – CANDIDACY:
Over the course of the next five to eighteen months (depending on how quickly your support team is formed), you will begin preparing for service in the field by building a prayer and financial support team. During this time you will also attend a support-raising seminar in order to equip you to raise the predetermined amount set in your budget for field ministry and living expenses. Toward the end of your candidacy and prior to departing for the field, you will attend three weeks of cross-cultural training either with Food for the Hungry staff and/or through a missions training ministry. Finally, you will make one last visit to the Phoenix office to complete employment paperwork, a pre-briefing and a commissioning.
Step 8 – THE FIELD:
Once you finish raising your support, you are ready for the field!
To begin the process and apply for a Hunger Corps position, go to: www.fh.org/help/individuals/jobs as detailed in step one above. We look forward to walking with you in your steps to serving God and the poor in one of our fields!
