Becoming a Team Leader

Qualifications . . .

A team leader plays a critical role in developing his or her team. The first requirement of a team leader is that you have a strong relationship with God, and are involved in a local church. While not required, previous mission’s experience is extremely desirable. Team leaders are mature, pro-active, organized, flexible and discerning individuals—filling an important role of encouragement and leadership by example.

Responsibilities . . .

You will play the key role in pre-field, on-field and post-field team development. After selecting team members, you will coordinate support-raising strategies, schedule team meetings, secure team documentation (forms, insurance, passports, etc.). On the field, you will work with our staff to coordinate and ready your team for its projects, including team devotions and debriefing. After arriving home, it is your privilege to guide reflection of group and individual experiences.

What Food for the Hungry provides you . . .

The success of our teams program allows us to train and send numbers of teams around the world each year. We recognize that many of our team leaders are busy serving in their own local churches, while maintaining careers and caring for families. Our goal is to guide the training, fund-raising, project logistics, and travel arrangements so that you can enjoy the role of building, guiding and leading your team in a life-changing experience. In addition to the materials provided during pre-field training to prepare you, Team leaders attend a training conference held in January or February in Phoenix, Arizona.
