Trek for Hope Peru 2011

The Trek for Hope Peru 2011 is coming alongside families in Peru through supporting the Oikos Project. Oikos is the Greek word for home or household, the implicit definition is the idea of a thriving household that provides an environment for family members to grow and work towards the physical, emotional, social and spiritual well-being of the family.

It was found that domestic violence was the most critical issue facing children, teens and families in San Juan de Lurigancho, Peru and are not thriving as household. As a result children become the silent victims of abuse or neglect within their family and community. Because of the many causes of violence, the Oikos Project will be focused on the community and the family.

The Oikos Project will provide opportunities for children and their families to develop skills that will strengthen their ability to deal with domestic violence and prevent it through lessons and interactive social/recreational experiences, spiritual and educational programs. Your support of helping to provide safe spaces such as a community center, library or recreation area will help promote a culture of peace and establish community unity.

In September, our team will have the opportunity to develop relationships with many of these children and their families. We will be involved in a construction project, children and family programs, visits to the homes of our sponsored children. The team of 14 trekkers will celebrate the end our trip with a 4 Day Trek to Machu Picchu. (your tax deductible gift will not be used for the trek)
