It can take only a viewing of the nightly news to be overwhelmed by the suffering around the world, the hunger and poverty. But, what can one person do? By the grace of God, we can each do our small part.
My friend, Tina Franchimone, decided as she turns fifty this year, to skip the girl’s day at the spa and organize a celebration with eternal significance instead. That’s how “50 for 50” was born. She’s invited her friends to join her in raising $50,000 for “Food for the Hungry”. We’ll participate in a 36 mile “Trek for Hope” through the beautiful Rocky Mountains to bring attention to this cause. Food for the Hungry is known for sending “help to people in hard places”. Although I will pay my own expenses for travel, lodging and food during this 3 day hike, I am asking my family and friends to choose gifts, from the Food for the Hungry gift guide, for those in need around the world. I am committed to raising at least $2,000 worth of gifts prior to our June trek. As you browse the gift guide and find the opportunity to give a farm animal, school supplies, or a perhaps a fruit tree, you’ll notice these are gifts that multiply themselves and keep on giving.
Please join me in the joy of being a blessing to those in hard places around the world.

Growing up I learned at a young age that nothing my mom did should ever surprise me. She has never been afraid to take on a challenge and confront it with both feet in the running blocks.
And, so it does not surprise me that my mom has chosen to celebrate her 50th birthday by giving back to others.
While we are fortunate to live in a country of abundance, the ’50-for-50 Trek’ gives us all the opportunity to help those less fortunate. We are partnering with Food for the Hungry in an effort to raise $50,000. We will be participating in a 3-day 36 mile hike/trek through Estes Park , CO. While I will be responsible for my own travel expenses, I will be trying to raise support to contribute to the ’50-for-50 Trek’. Any gift, great or small, is appreciated, and there are so many different opportunities to offer hope to those less fortunate through the Food for the Hungry Gift Catalog.
I am so blessed to be able to be a part of this great trip and vision. I thank you in advance for your partnership.
Ready, set go...the race is on!

I am so excited to be able to be a part of the 2010, “50 for 50 – Trek for Hope” and to help accomplish the vision that was put in Tina’s heart just 5 short months ago. This is the first time since making the decision to follow Christ over 11 years ago, that I have been in the position to be a part of something so significant to further the Kingdom of God.
It is especially sweet for me in two areas; one being that God has provided all my expenses for this trek, so all I need to do is raise support. The other area is, I had the blessing of hearing the vision when it was first spoken into fruition, and now, to see its progression and to actually be a part of the vision is mind blowing for me. I now wait in anticipation to see God move and be glorified in fulfilling the vision.
We are living at a critical time in history and what a better way to bring hope to the lost and practical items to the poor by providing for them what they cannot provide for themselves. For those who are considering supporting me on this trek, we are using the Food for the Hungry Gift Guide to accomplish the vision to raise the $50,000. Any gift amount is welcome. Thank you in advance for your support.

The Trek for Hope is a unique opportunity to view the splendor of the Rockies, meet new friends AND provide help for the helpless. In the United States, I don’t think that we truly understand poverty. We don’t understand the causes or the sheer hopelessness that it inflicts. The Trek for Hope is a chance to provide support for those in desperate need.
I am part of a team committed to raise $50,000 to be given through Food for the Hungry. Unlike most donations, where you’re never sure if your donation will actually get to those in need, these donations are made using the Food for the Hungry gift guide! Your donation can provide sustainable food, health and hygiene, education opportunities or support in micro-enterprises.
I am blessed to be a part of a team willing to step out in faith and I hope you will join us in reaching our goal. Thank you for your willingness to change lives for hungry people around the world.

When I first heard of this opportunity last year I was so interested, but it did not work out, nor did I think it would this year....but at the last minute, I am seizing the opportunity to combine three passions....hiking....the mountains of Colorado.......helping others. Due to a last minute change I am going to participate with nine other women in the “50 for 50 Trek for Hope” June 9th-13th. I will be part of a team of amazing women hoping to raise $50,000 as we trek, hiking “inn to inn” in Estes Park. Inspired by turning 50, Tina Franchimone, one of the ladies in our group decided that in celebration, she would work with others to raise $50,000 for Food for the Hungry.
What a wonderful way to spend a vacation, hiking in God's wonderful creation all the while raising awareness and support for such a wonderful organization. Food for the Hungry serves the poor through loving relationships, providing needed resources and training. I hope that you will decide to make a difference in the lives of others through choosing a gift in the 2010 Gift Guide. The cost of my trip is paid for, so your donations will go directly to those in need. You will notice that these are the kind of gifts that will not rust or break and will provide long lasting blessings in the lives of the poor and vulnerable around the world.
Thank you in advance for any and all donations!

Dear Friends,
I am looking forward to joining a group of 20 trekkers in the the second annual Trek for Hope . Last year I was a part of the 2009 Trek for Hope with 7 other trekkers. At the end of our 36 mile trek we rejoiced when we each discovered how our sponsors had supported us through gifts purchased from the Food for the Hungry Gift Guide. Last year we had over 40 sponsors and raised over $5000 in sustainable gifts.
This year our team is being challenged to raise $50,000. The “50 for 50 Trek for Hope” is a passion of Tina Franchimone, one of last year’s trekkers, to celebrate her 50th birthday by providing a way for others to walk with the poor through giving a gift of hope through sponsoring a trekker.
I hope that you will decide to make a difference in the lives of others through choosing a gift in our 2010 Gift Guide. You will notice that these are the kind of gifts that will not rust or break and will provide long lasting blessings in the lives of the poor and vulnerable around the world.
Walking with Him,

Food for the Hungry is near and dear to my heart since my brother & sister in law (Dick & Liz Mulhern) both work for this compassionate organization. When I see the difference their efforts make in the lives of the people and families they serve, it touches my heart. I was just offered the opportunity to raise money and awareness for FH through the 50 for 50 Trek next week in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado... and I am thrilled to be able to help Food for the Hungry while doing something that I enjoy! I know this journey will be difficult for me (we are hiking in moderate to difficult terrain for 7-10 miles per day at a high altitude for me... coming from sea level.) I am not in the best of shape and have little time to prepare; however, it will stretch my comfort boundaries, thus making the "trek" even more meaningful! It is not bad to suffer a little while doing something good for others.
Since their response in the early 70's to the great need for the poor in Bangladesh to the current efforts in the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Food for the Hungry has been ministering to poverty stricken countries for decades. Their mission is "To walk with churches, leaders and families in overcoming all forms of human poverty by living in healthy relationship with God and His creation." Our trek next week will be supporting these goals, so if you are able to donate even a small amount to support me and help meet the Trek's goal of $50,000, it would be greatly appreciated! If you click "sponsor me" it will take you to the 2010 Gift Guide, which includes donations that change peoples' lives... like sustainable food, small business opportunities and educational supplies! Your prayers for the people they serve will mean just as much... I appreciate your support either way! (The costs we incur for the Trek are our own; all monies we raise go directly to Food for the Hungry.)
Thanks for your encouragement and response... and I will be thinking of you all next week while enjoying the beauty of my former home state in the company of a dedicated group of "trekkers!"
God Bless You!

Dear Friends,
I am always game for a big adventure! An opportunity was introduced to me last year, to combine a vacation with supporting an effective meaningful ministry; Food for the Hungry. As I pondered this Trek for Hope, I saw a door open for me to experience His Presence and His creation as I pursue staying fit.
On June 9th-13th, I will be part of a team inspired to raise $50,000 as we trek in Colorado, hiking "inn to inn", experiencing the beautiful trails in Estes Park. I share this with you for two reasons, first to encourage you to consider vacation opportunities such as this that support compassion ministries. Second, is to ask you to consider bringing God's love to the poor by providing practical assistance; and inspiring hope to build a future. While I am providing for my own expenses to cover this trip, my prayer is that you would be a partner with me in donating to Food for the Hungry as well as considering creative ways to make an impact in the lives of the poor and needy.

When I first heard about the "50 for 50 Trek for Hope 2010" vision of hiking in the beautiful mountains of Colorado to raise money for the poor I was praying that I could be part of it ... and, I can't believe it, but here I am on the team.
Tina, our Director of Community Development, had this unique vision for celebrating her 50th birthday. Her "50 for 50" vision is to raise $50,000 for Food for the Hungry. She will be doing this by gathering a team to trek 36 miles in three days. What a wonderful way to spend a vacation, hiking in God's wonderful creation all the while raising awareness and support for such a wonderful organization. Food for the Hungry serves the poor through loving relationships, providing needed resources and training.
I will be paying for my own expenses for this trip but will be helping to raise the $50,000. So, will you join me by purchasing a pig, or a chicken, or a water system, or ...? If you want to join us by donating, please browse the catalog and donate to whatever catches your heart.
Thanks ahead of time for your donations!
Pam

I have supported Food for the Hungry for years because I believe in their mission and trust them to carry it out. The Trek for Hope 2010 - "50 for 50 Trek" is a fabulous way to combine a hiking vacation through beautiful Estes Park, CO and the vision to raise $50,000 to help those in need around the world through FFH. Each of us will be asking friends and family to join in contributing through the Food for the Hungry Gift Catalog. All donations go to FFH; the cost of the trip is not included - we pay own way.
My personal goal is to raise at least $2,000 worth of gifts prior to our June trek. Considering what I do for a living, I would especially like to raise enough for a house or two at $750 apiece. Please pick an item from the catalog that speaks to your heart, add to the house fund or just designate "where most needed" it's all good! Thanks for giving a gift of hope.
