The Truth about Child Sponsorship
Facilitated by Jewel Anita Hendrix
Have you ever wondered how Food for the Hungry works with children in our Child Development programs? What is the goal, and why are transforming ideas so important? What is God's heart for children, and how do we walk with parents and communities to fulfill their role in nurturing their children? Find out how we encourage the community to continue fostering the development of children. Learn the common barriers that hinder child development, how we address them, and your part in this process as a child sponsor.
The Truth about the Human Soul
Facilitated by Dr. Paul Wilson
What do souls have to do with poverty? The human soul is the combination of our heart, mind, body and relationships. This collaborative workshop will explore the biblical teaching concerning the human soul, drawing out lessons for our own lives and for people living in poverty. We will explore similarities and differences between secular and Christian approaches to development.
The Truth about Physical Poverty
Facilitated by Victor Cortez
Poverty is not merely lack of income or material possessions. Poverty includes deprivation of basic capabilities. In Guatemala, high rates of chronic malnutrition in children under two years old prevent them from developing to the full physical, intellectual and spiritual potential that God has given them. In this session, we will discuss the complex origins of malnutrition and the importance of addressing chronic malnutrition in Guatemala and around the world.
The Truth about Social Poverty
Facilitated by Dr. Kim Freidah Brown
If poverty is about broken relationships, can restored relationships help people overcome poverty? How can the poor and non-poor experience the power of mutually beneficial partnerships? With a background as a psychologist and development practitioner in Nicaragua, Dr. Kim Brown will share the importance of catalyzing the power of the Gospel message for God’s restoration of all relationships.
The Truth About Serving
Facilitated by Steve Corbett
Good intentions are not always enough in missions. When churches and individuals go on short-term teams to communities in developing countries, they need to think carefully about the messages they send - not just verbally, but also through their actions. In this session, author Steve Corbett will talk about three common mistakes to avoid when participating in short-term missions.
The Truth about Spiritual Darkness
Facilitated by Mapanza Nkwilimba
While we commonly dwell on the physical aspects and origins of poverty, poverty is very much a spiritual issue. Food for the Hungry's Church Strengthening Program in Mozambique is on the frontlines of applying truth to fight both physical and spiritual poverty. Come prepared to hear real-life stories of what spiritual poverty looks like and how it is being overcome.
