Benjamin Homan became President of Food for the Hungry in March 2001. Prior to joining Food for the Hungry, Homan was vice president at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis.

Previously, he worked with the international ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ and also taught on the faculties of Chaffey College, Biola University, the University of Nebraska and the University of California-Irvine.
Homan is a summa cum laude graduate of Biola University with a degree in Communication Studies. He is also an alumnus of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Washington University and Shanghai Normal College where he studied Organizational Communication, International Affairs and the Mandarin language respectively.

When not traveling and sharing in the joys and sorrows of some the world’s poorest families, he enjoys camping with and spending time with his wife and three children.

    Okay, I have to admit that I have never even once watched an episode of the "West Wing." However, I guess I can say that I have lived through two episodes of the "West Wing." With the following being an account of my visit there in February 2008. Here are my recollections


  • Mea culpa
    If you have been looking for blog entries from me across the last year or so, you will have come up empty. So sorry about that. Mea culpa. I was on a roll for a short span of time, covering some meetings and trips as part of my service on the congressionally mandated HELP Commission ( www.HELPCommission.gov ). The trouble was that the Commission's work reached a heightened level of activity throughout 2007. Then, the Commission, as we deliberated on our findings and recommendations, moved into a required "cone of silence." We needed a confidential period as we finalized the report.

  • IDP's in Uganda
    The Benet people are a small sub-group of the Sabinyas indigenous to the slopes of Mt. Elgon in Uganda. Stretching back to colonial times there has been a land dispute between the government and the Benet people over a strip of land at the base of Mt. Elgon National Park. Up till now the Benet people have been allowed to remain in the park living their traditional lifestyle.
