Food for the Hungry responds swiftly to provide emergency help
Food for the Hungry is responding to provide relief assistance to victims of Hurricane Ida, which swept through parts of Central America before taking aim for the United States.
Ida was declared a hurricane on Thursday, November 5, while it was off the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua. Flash floods and mudslides destroyed homes and schools in Nicaragua, displacing more than 13,000 people, according to latest estimates. Rivers overflowed under heavy rains rendering some roads impassable.
Food for the Hungry has dispatched emergency assessment teams on the ground to determine the best way to respond to families and communities in desperate need of hope and help. In Nicaragua, response efforts are focused in Puerto Cabezas, where Food for the Hungry is working with a local partner.
