Church and FH Get Creative to Help Orphans

Zeway Orphans

Food for the Hungry (FH) and Grace Covenant Church, based in Austin, Texas, have come together in a Community-to-Community partnership to meet the needs of orphans in Zeway, Ethopia. FH works actively in Zeway helping people fight poverty and disease. In recent years, the issue of child-headed households (CHH) have presented a great need.
CHH are homes where residents are 18-year-old and younger. The CHH numbers continue to grow due Zeway’s increased number of deaths from AIDS. Some homes have ailing parents dying from AIDS, with the children acting as caretakers.

Josh Kienzle, FH manager of field partnerships, says, "Our regular program seeks to impact the children through the school system. Forced to provide for their younger siblings, these children aren't able to attend school. Our staff needed a different strategy in order to help them."

Grace Covenant Church continues to raise funds to meet the health and nutritional needs of these children. Visit these sites to learn more about Grace Covenant Church’s work or C2C partnerships.
