PHOENIX, April 11, 2006—Carol Hedrick of Rome, N. Y., joined the “Where in the Kingdom” contest just for fun. Her 13-year-old daughter, Samantha, tuned in to the radio and listened to the clues to educate herself about other cultures. Now mother and daughter are looking forward to spending some fun time together and knowing more about life in other countries.
Hedrick’s prize for winning the sixth Food for the Hungry and K-LOVE Radio “Where in the Kingdom” contest is a five-day mission trip for two to China and Bangladesh. She and her daughter will get to see first-hand the various programs and projects that Food for the Hungry implements in those countries in partnership with local churches, leaders and families. Joining them on this trip is K-LOVE on-air personality Mike Novak.
"We are so excited about this trip and anxious to see what God is doing in other places," says Hedrick, a bookkeeper at a Christian camp and conference center in central New York. "We hope to be able to serve or do something while we’re there."
Hedrick says this will be her and Samantha’s first overseas mission trip, and to do it with Food for the Hungry and K-LOVE Radio, she adds, is an opportunity "to see what it means to be with servant organizations."
The "Where in the Kingdom" contest was created to educate Americans about poverty issues around the world.
Matt Panos, vice-president of ministry partnerships and resources for Food for the Hungry, says the mission trip offers a great opportunity for ministry. "Not many people in America have the chance to serve in other countries, and we’re excited that our partnership gives yet another listener the opportunity to be blessed and to bless others."
K-LOVE Radio is a listener-supported, contemporary Christian music network broadcasting across the U.S. and over the Internet.
