serving "children under the trees" - rwanda

This October there are two opportunities to make a difference in Rwanda for the "Children Under the Trees"

Team One: October 7 - 18, 2006
Team Two: October 21 - November 1, 2006
Costs: Aproximately $700 - $900 + airfare and $75 deposit fee

The Need & the Ministry:
A classroom, a desk, a chair and a book. These are the basics for millions of students learning around the world. But for the small country of Rwanda they are luxuries. Thousands of children gather, with no classroom of their own, to learn outside “under the trees” in the wildlife park of Umutara. In 2005, Christian artists Randy Phillips, Shawn Craig and Dan Dean, of Phillips, Craig & Dean, learned of this injustice for the first time, and their hearts were stirred. They knew they had to do something. Their conviction led to a partnership with radio station K-LOVE and Food for the Hungry, to raise global awareness. The response was, and continues to be, overwhelming. People want to give, learn more, and go. "Children under the Trees," as it was called, has raised enough money to construct 40 schools in Rwanda. But the work is not finished ...

Here's how you can make a significant difference in the lives of these precious children:

The Details
In October 2006, Food for the Hungry plans to send two teams of volunteers to help construct six of these needed classrooms. By helping build these classrooms, team member will not only meet a physical need in the community. Team members will also minister and be ministered to as they meet and serve among the people of Rwanda.

The first team will serve October 7 -18, 2006. The second team will serve October 21 – November 1, 2006.

Estimated costs: TBA (approximately $700 - $900 + airfare, but more precise pricing information should be available in the coming weeks).

The "Children Under The Trees" project has already involved literally thousands of people from across the country who have desired to make a difference. We are excited and thankful for the opportunity to see these teams come together.

You’ve heard the need. You’ve acknowledged the cry. It’s time to make a difference. It’s time to go.
