bangladesh prayer calendar

Week 1 - Government Leaders

  • Pray that the president, prime minister, the Cabinet and political leaders of Bangladesh would govern the country with wisdom and righteousness. Pray for a strong governance and unity among political parties.

  • Animosity has weakened Bangladeshi politics since independence in 1971, with assassinations and military coups aplenty in the succeeding three decades. Pray for peace to overcome personal hatred and power struggles, and for the government leaders to focus on the needs of the people and the good of the country.

Week 2 - Churches

  • Praise God for the growth of the evangelical churches in Bangladesh. Churches in Bangladesh have been growing twice as fast as the population during the past 40 years. Although Christians still account for less than 1 percent of that population, they are having an impact on society.

  • Pray for wisdom and boldness for church leaders.

  • Pray for a strengthening of the faith of Christians in Bangladesh. Many believers are products of early people movements and have suffered subsequently from poverty, illiteracy, and lack of trained leadership. Pray for renewal among these Christians and for wisdom for those in leadership.

  • Pray for boldness amid discrimination. Officially, Bangladesh allows religious freedom, but religious minorities, including Christians, have recently come under pressure from extremist Muslim groups. Along with Hindus and Buddhists, believers in Christ suffer many disadvantages in society, often to the point of persecution for their faith. Pray that the freedom of religion be maintained in this country.

Week 3 – Families

  • Praise God for the ministry of Food for the Hungry through which many families receive training in health and nutrition, parenting, and income-generating activities. Pray that more families would be equipped to improve their way of life and that they would come to know God’s love.

  • More than 70 million Bangladeshi residents are under the age of 16; most of them live in dire poverty. Pray that God would supply all their needs, but also that they would grow in the knowledge and grace of God.

Week 4 - Partners, Projects and People

  • Many children in this poverty-stricken country lack satisfactory education—some lack any education at all. Pray that God would use the numerous outreaches of Food for the Hungry to help the poor and the “untouchables.” Pray that the teachers would have a deep hunger for God’s truth and teach the students with excellence, helping them learn academically but also drawing them to the saving grace of Jesus.

  • Pray that the residents of the Khoksha District may learn the skills necessary to identify and solve economic and agricultural problems that accompany the yearly flooding.

  • Pray for the outreach of Food for the Hungry targeting undernourished mothers and their children who enter hospital for treatment. These poorly educated mothers, once released from hospital, unfortunately return to the very lifestyle habits that caused the malnutrition in the first place. Pray for God’s blessings on the Shishu Niramoy Kendro (SNK) (The Child Healing Centre), where children and their mothers/guardians can stay before or following their hospital visits, and where they can view health videos and receive health education.

  • Pray for Christian staff trying to help three small Horijon sweeper communities located in Chandpur overcome the physical and spiritual barriers that keep them from progress and development.
