Dear Prayer Partners,
This month of July, let us remember to pray for Bolivia.
Despite being rich in natural resources, Bolivia is one of the poorest and least developed countries in Latin America, and has been referred to as “a donkey sitting on a gold mine.”
Most of the country is underdeveloped and poverty is widespread, especially among the rural and mining populations. Rampant inflation and corruption contribute to the country’s slow development.
Bolivia is a member of the Andean Community, a trade bloc comprising the South American countries of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Agriculture accounts for roughly 15 percent of Bolivia’s GDP. Soybeans, coffee, cotton and corn are among the major cash crop, sold into the Andean Community market. The United States, however, remains Bolivia’s largest trading partner.
Food for the Hungry began to work in Bolivia in 1978 through our child development outreach. By the grace of God, we continue to serve on many long-term projects to help Guatemalan children, families and communities build a sustainable future.
