Myanmar
On May 3, 2008, Cyclone Nargis struck Myanmar (also known as Burma) with winds up to 150 MPH, followed by a tidal wave estimated to have been between 12 to 15 feet high. The wave swept inland, destroying everything in its path. Officials estimate the death toll exceeds 134,000. Millions of people are still displaced, with entire villages completely destroyed, leaving children and families with no shelter, vulnerable to disease.
Food for the Hungry is providing food, water, medicine and shelter to vulnerable children and families through local partners already on the ground prior to the cyclone. While wide-scale relief continues to be a issue, Food for the Hungry is able to help people directly by purchasing supplies locally and distributing them to the most vulnerable children and families.

Please continue to pray that larger avenues of relief will open, as there are many people in desperate need.
