On October 3, in cooperation with several international NGOs, Food for the Hungry officially launched a new program office in Haiti. Through health, child development and church strengthening programs, FH-Haiti is planning to make a significant impact in responding to the call of ending physical and spiritual hungers across several communities of Haiti.

Just two hours north of Chengdu (where the FH-China team is based) is the city of Jiangyou, where FH has concentrated its relief efforts since the May 12th earthquake struck the Sichuan Province. Jiangyou is located just 20 km outside of Beichuan, the community that was the hardest hit by the earthquake.
9/09/2008 - Renewed violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Violence has again erupted in the North Kivu Province of the DRC. Renegade General Laurent Nkunda’s CNDP has begun attacking Congolese Government positions in a direct breach to the Goma Agreement, a peace accord signed in January. This new influx of violence is causing fresh waves of displacement in North Kivu, already swelling with over 800,000 displaced people.

In a recent letter, an FH partner in Myanmar shares the heartbreaking stories of the victims of Cyclone Nargis he has met through his relief efforts. He writes of one man who lost his wife and five children in the cyclone. With tears in his eyes, this man conveyed his thanks to the FH partner by expressing that his deceased family had sent him blessings through the relief assistance received.
