2007/12/07 - Bangladesh Still in Need of Relief
women standing in line for relief

Almost a month has passed since Cyclone Sidr devastated the country of Bangladesh and many families are still in great need. To date, Food for Hungry Bangladesh staff have distributed food to over 22,000 people and non-food items to over 23,000 people.

Government officials have asked FH to respond to the need of 600 families who have not yet received food aid from any agency. We are also working to clear some tubewells in order to restore water supplies in parts of Kolapara.

Some initial assessment findings from FH Bangladesh staff show that 70% of the homes in the areas we are providing relief have been completley destroyed and most of the others have withstood significant damage. The assessment is also gathering data about loss of basic household items, current water source and latrine access, #of pregnant women and infant children and damage to livelihood.

As you can read, the damage is quite extensive and the need is still great. Please consider supporting Food for the Hungry in our relief response to the many Bangladeshi victims.
