5/7/2008 - Myanmar Cyclone Nargis
Myanmar was struck hard when Cyclone Nargis came raging through the country effecting over 45 different districts with a population of around 24 million people. With the death toll at 22,000 and rising the total is expected to be around 50,000 with more than 40,000 still missing.

Lack of electricity and damage to roads has made it difficult to asses the degree of damage, especially to those villages in outlaying areas.  Two major areas of concern are the lack of access to clean drinking water and the high risk of water borne diseases. Water has flooded many sewage areas causing it to spill over into populated areas.

FH has people on the ground in Bangladesh who are assessing the situation and are ready to respond once the Myanmar government has approved outside Relief Agencies access into the country. The team is well equipped and prepared to respond with food, clean water, emergency shelter and medical help.

We will give more updates once information is avaiable.
