The Word of God
In the Bible, the term ‘foundation’ refers to the foundation of a building during construction and the foundation of reading, believing and practicing God’s Word. God wanted us to know that His word is the key for our development, starting when we are children.
Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete. –Luke 6:46-49
With so many different beliefs in this world, part of our work around the globe is to impart the truth – the Word of God – to all children living in the different communities we work in. In Peru, we do this through a program called ‘Foundations.’
We work with children to build a foundation that will be as strong as a rock, so when difficult times come, they won’t ‘crumble like sand.’
Worth the Effort
As you know, the construction of this ‘invisible’ foundation requires time and money, but we do it because we know that at the end of the day, we want a solid, well-built house with strong walls. We want to nurture children with the basic knowledge of God, so they’ll be able to see the world with more conviction, make good decisions and live according to God’s purpose.
Food for the Hungry (FH) has been working on this program with children ages 6 to 12, in communities such as Chunkuymarca, Quinta Boliviana, Quintanillapampa, Millpoccachuana, and Pueblo Libre in Huancavelica. What’s even more encouraging, is that the parents are responding very positively to this program. Because of their enthusiasm, surrounding communities want to take part in the program as well.
We have high expectations of our children learning values. They’ve only been there for two weeks and already, they are talking about the things they are drawing and coloring. It reminds them of the values they are learning. –A father from the community
In this program, we are teaching children Christian values that they can carry with them for a lifetime. Will you join us in our work?
