How to Host a Sponsorship Weekend at Your Church

If you sponsor a child, you’re already aware of the many blessings that come from sponsorship. Why not invite your church to experience the joy of sponsoring children?

It’s simple to host a sponsorship Sunday, and Food for the Hungry will walk you through the process. Here are the 4 steps to follow.

Child sponsorship1. Talk with your pastor.

Schedule a time to share your heart for child sponsorship with your pastor. Ask when you can share for 5-10 minutes during the Sunday service and host a sponsorship table in the lobby.

2. Request materials.

On the contact form, let us know that you are planning a sponsorship weekend. Food for the Hungry will send you packets with photos of children waiting for sponsors. We will also send instructions on how to host your sponsorship table and what to share during your short presentation at church.

If you prefer to request your materials over the phone, contact one of our Church Engagement staff directly.

3. Recruit volunteers.

Ask some friends to help you host the sponsorship table. Depending on the size of your church, two to five volunteers should be sufficient. Use Food for the Hungry’s training materials (included in your shipment) to briefly train the volunteers.

4. Host your sponsorship weekend.

child sponsorshipOn your sponsorship weekend, be prepared, but also be flexible! By now you have rehearsed your short presentation so that it will flow naturally, and your friends are ready at the back table to sign up new sponsors after the service. Enjoy this time of sharing your story and connecting with new sponsors.

Once your event is completed, be sure to tell your pastor how many children were sponsored. He will certainly want to share this news with the congregation next week!
