Hope in the Hardest Places This Christmas

This time last year, we heard news day after day about children in crisis in Syria and the ensuing refugee dilemma. This Christmas season, we are once again brought to our knees in prayer about the victims of ISIS in Syria, Rohingya refugees fleeing Myanmar into Bangladesh, South Sudanese refugees flooding into northern Uganda…and many, many more unbearable situations around the globe.

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18

It’s easy to face overwhelming emotions and not know what to do next. In crisis situations when the stakes are high and people face extreme desperation, what we do understand is that children are the most vulnerable. Families in the midst of war, famine, drought and other crises may not be able to meet the basic needs of the youngest in their midst. But what can we do, especially from the other side of the world?

Children in Crisis

Through Food for the Hungry’s Children in Crisis fund, friends like you are helping to save the lives of kids. Our year-end Children in Crisis campaign enables you to be there for the most vulnerable children and families living in places where child sponsorship isn’t always possible. It’s challenging in these hard places to respond and protect children. But your generous donations meet the basic needs of children, like food and water, as well as providing safe places for kids.

Ahmed’s Story, Bangladesh

Ahmed, only four years old, faced extreme malnourishment. He was on the brink of death. After fleeing the violence in Myanmar with his mother, Ahmed began living in a refugee camp in Bangladesh. Disabled since birth, he cannot walk or speak. His mother was desperate to help her little boy.

Then, a medical team through our partners at Medical Teams International took Ahmed to a clinic that specializes in malnourishment treatment. His life was likely saved because of this care. His doctor now believes that Ahmed can recover. Because of generous donors, this child in crisis has the chance to survive and perhaps begin to thrive for the first time in his life.

How do we use this fund?

Your donations are reserved in a fund that can be used in emergency situations to respond quickly and effectively. Children in crisis receive help like:

  • Clean drinking water
  • Adequate sanitation
  • Food
  • Clothing
  • Shelter
  • Agricultural aid
  • Safe spaces

This Christmas season, please join us to help save the lives of children like Ahmed in extreme need.

I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy. Psalm 142:1
