Did you know that when you support Food for the Hungry (FH), you’re ultimately empowering communities to graduate out of poverty in a sustainable way? With your help, we walk alongside communities as they identify obstacles, create projects and develop programs to tackle them, and finally, own their solutions. We celebrate the victory of community graduation when children and families in the community begin to thrive on their own, knowing that God has given them the ability to create lasting change and hope for a brighter future.
What Is Community Graduation?
A community graduates when the children and families living there can survive and thrive on their own. More importantly, they have hope for a brighter future. Food for the Hungry (FH) is able to leave that community because you have given them a hand up, not just a handout. Together, we get to celebrate the victory of community graduation when a community is …
- Empowered to find transformative solutions, which are sustainable and implemented by the communities themselves.
- Filled with hope for their future and strive to reach their God-given potential.
- Resilient, self-sustainable, able to prepare for disasters or potential threats … and more!
The Victory of Community Graduation in Bogra Horiion
FH first entered the Bogra Horiion community in Bangladesh in 2006. Eleven years later, FH exited the community and Bogra Horiion graduated from FH programs. The impact supporters and child sponsors like you have made on the community will last a lifetime. Children of the community are receiving a better education. Many of them have even gone on to higher education. Women in the community participated in trainings and joined savings groups. Because of the economics trainings, women are participating in many income-generating activities. This has increased their overall family income. Local government leaders were able to establish the development of many community assets such as schools, and water and sanitation systems. The transformation that is most worth celebrating and is the true reason the Bogra Horiion community graduated from FH programs is the hope they have.
Hope Is Why We Celebrate Community Graduation
The people of the Bogra Horijon community now have a hope for the future. They know and believe that they are created in God’s image and that God has a plan for their life and future. Leaders have a servant mindset and are working for the overall development of the community. Parents are more motivated to care for their children and take an interest in their children’s education. Children now have dreams of getting a higher education and participating in the community’s development.
One of the best ways to partner with us to graduate more communities out of poverty is by sponsoring a child. If you haven’t said “yes” to sponsoring a child, today can be the day. It will bring so much joy to a child for us to be able to tell him or her: “You have a sponsor!”
