Habtam has three beautiful girls. They live in the mountainous district of Lay Gayint in northern Ethiopia. Because she didn’t have the money to buy food, and she couldn’t grow enough in her plot’s rocky soil, her children suffered from malnutrition. She couldn’t afford the tools and seeds she needed.
But through the kindness of FH supporters, Food for the Hungry’s agriculture program was able to give her gardening tools and seeds for cabbage, Swiss chard, carrot and beet root.
In her own words, this is what your gift to Food for the Hungry can do for mothers like Habtam. With the seeds, she received training in everything from planting to compost preparation.
“…no words can explain how I’ve benefited! The vegetable products from the garden I have made with the support of FH sustained us sufficiently for about eight months. Now, I’m able to cook and feed a nutritionally rich food to my children. The health and wellbeing of my children is now far better than before. I have even bought a cow with credit and paid my debt already now. Now, we have a cow and have adequate supply of milk for our children.”
