Cyclone Freddy has destroyed homes, schools, roads, and health posts and in multiple provinces.
In the Caia district alone, where FH works, 14,714 homes were totally destroyed and at least 450 were flooded. FH is working to provide these families with shelter kits, enabling them to rebuild and return from temporary encampments on high ground to the relative safety of their own homes. Projections indicate that more than 1 million people are affected.
All 15 borehole wells targeted for rehabilitation after the cyclone are now fixed and in operation. FH continues distributing water purification tablets to insure families drink clean water.
FH provided 1,100 households with food vouchers that allowed families to purchase rice, maize meal, beans, vegetable oil, and salt. Additionally the same households received cabbage and tomato seeds, along with hoes to help replant ruined fields.
Diapers are one of the most expensive items for displaced families to buy. FH helped provide 3,500 households with diapers to keep children dry, clean, and healthy.
Distributions of blankets, jackets, and sweaters kept more than 38,000 people warm and healthy, in the midst of sub-freezing temperatures.
Partners in Syria provided emergency food baskets to more than 40,000 quake victims. The number in need soared as quake victims moved in with other families, stretching food supplies and budgets both for the host and displaced families.
The Haiti team is in process of supporting 450 displaced households, fleeing gang violence in their hometowns, with cash-transfer assistance in order for these families to meet basic needs. So far, 439 families have been reached.
