Changing The World One At A Time: A Child Sponsorship Story

“We can’t change the world, but we can change the world for one person at a time.” —Ryan Bauchiero

It’s quite likely that you’ve heard about the transformative impact of child sponsorship. The relationship between a sponsored child and their sponsor is a special one. Two families from entirely different parts of the world are able to connect, encourage, and love each other. By sponsoring a child through FH, you’re able to build a relationship with a child through letters and pictures. As a sponsor, you also ensure the child has the proper resources he or she needs to thrive.

Meet the Bauchiero Family

The Bauchiero family consists of parents Ryan and Kerry along with their children, Tommy and Callie.

Meet Moises

Moises is an 11-year-old boy who lives in Peru. He loves playing soccer (and a lot of it) and spending time playing with his brother. He lives with both his mother and his brother.

Moises Meets the Bauchiero Family

The Bauchiero family had been sponsoring Moises for over three years before they had the opportunity to visit Moises. When the family decided to start sponsoring a child, they were drawn to Moises for a few different reasons. Kerry has been a Spanish teacher for over 18 years and she wanted the opportunity to connect with a child she could speak to in their native language. The Bauchiero son, Tommy, wanted to sponsor a boy who was his age. When they discovered that Moises loved soccer just as much as Tommy did, the decision to sponsor Moises felt perfect.

“I feel like someone far away is watching over me,” Moises says about his relationship with his sponsor family.

The Bauchiero family made the journey to Peru from Nashville to meet Moises for the first time. Ryan Bauchiero describes his experience. “Seeing Moises’ face light up made me realize that this was far more than a monetary donation. This is making a huge impact on this kid. He was so excited to see us. I thought it was just going to be us being excited to see him.” He goes on to talk about Moises. “He has an infectious smile and a heart that he wears on his sleeve. He immediately grabbed Tommy’s hand and said ‘Come with me, it’s going to be okay.'”

Moises’s mom talks about her experiences with the child sponsorship program. “For Moises, what’s going to help him is the spiritual and moral support and the warmth from this family. I believe that for him it’s going to be a strength for his path.”

Not everyone may have the opportunity to meet their sponsored child, but anyone has the opportunity to engage in a fruitful relationship that can teach you how to care for others, even those halfway around the world. For $38/month your sponsored child will have access to things like clean water, a better education, improved healthcare, and access to good nutrition and medical services. Your monthly pledge provides resources that empower the community to better care for its families and children.

Will you take the pledge and become a child sponsor today?
