Photo Essay: Children Pursue Beauty, Goodness and Truth

With all the craziness going on in this world, like COVID-19, political chaos, social unrest, and injustice, many of us at Food for the Hungry (FH) find comfort in practicing one of our key values — We Pursue Beauty, Goodness and Truth. We all need to discipline ourselves to see something beautiful, something that brings a little joy to our lives.

As FH’s media coordinator, I have the privilege of being the first to receive all of the stories, photos, and videos that our dedicated staff send for our media library.  I want to share some of my favorite pieces of joy today. The lessons that can be learned from a single photograph are many.

What Does Beauty Look Like?

Siblings sitting together on a chair.

This photo caught my attention because it showed me a simple view of beauty. Having a family is a beautiful thing. No matter what happens, having a family is precious and beautiful. Sometimes family isn’t even people who are related to you. It’s the people who are there for you.

What Does Goodness Look Like?

Image of a happy girl smiling for the camera.

I included this photo because it inspired me to strive to show goodness and kindness. The image taught me the goodness of friendship, from a child’s perspective. Being there for one another and teaching each another is pure goodness.

What Does Truth Look Like?

A mother standing in front of a house

If I were to pass this woman on the busy streets, I might not even look at her twice. But Mayna sees the truth of who her mother is. She thinks first of her children, helps them be successful, and nourishes them.

Stopping to Be Encouraged

All in all, if you are having a bad day, or social media is not your friend this week, I hope this We Pursue Beauty blog post gives you some encouragement and hope. God loves us all and sometimes if we take a minute to enjoy His beauty, goodness, and truth, we will see things from His perspective. We will see things through a child’s eyes. Remember, God is always in control. Our faith is in Him.
