Effendy Aritonang is the Country Director of Indonesia at Food for the Hungry (FH) and serves out of FH’s office in Medan, Indonesia. Effendy has over 20 years of experience in development work. Prior to joining the nonprofit sector and FH, he was in an officer development program for one of the largest banks in Indonesia. After joining the nonprofit sector, he began working in the areas of microfinance and microenterprise development for a CIDA-funded project, with outcomes that included building business incubation centers in six Indonesian universities He also had several different roles in development organizations, including Care International Microfinance Business Unit and Lutheran World Relief in Indonesia. He was also a consultant of Frankfurt School of Finance and Management UNEP Collaboration Centre. He joined FH in 2014 as a Program Director in Indonesia and assumed his current role of Country Director in 2015. In this role, he manages and leads the FH Indonesia team, travels to FH communities to oversee program work, coaches SLT members, oversees program planning and strategy, and builds networks with other NGOs and stakeholders in Indonesia.
Effendy earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from the University of North Sumatra in Indonesia. He later earned a Master of Divinity degree in Intercultural and Urban Studies from the Asian Theological Seminary in the Philippines.
