Khoun didn’t expect her own life to be transformed. At first this mother in Cambodia was just grateful for the chance for her 12-year-old daughter Sievminh to become a sponsored child through Food for the Hungry (FH). Khoun and her husband Chanthon struggled to provide for their 3 children. Their income as rice and cassava farmers didn’t provide enough resources for the family.

Olivia is 12 years old and she made a dramatic transformation from an at-risk youth to a teen group leader. She became active in kids clubs made possible by child sponsorship. This set her on a positive path to begin thinking and planning for her future. Now, she is already saving and dreaming for her future.

The Whiting Family: Giving with Joyful Hearts

The Whiting family first heard about FH five years ago at a concert. They started sponsoring a child from Ethiopia and through child sponsorship, they found out about other areas of FH’s work. Because the Whitings live on a working farm, they really connected with giving animals through the FH Gift Catalog.

Sponsor Dubs Uganda Visit A Piece of Heaven

The entire village came to greet us with cheers and ululations (a joyous howl) as we walked down a little path to Annet’s home. I knew Annet as soon as I saw her and she kneeled for the traditional greeting of the women in her region of Uganda. I had tears in my eyes; it was a quite overwhelming moment.

Studies said her and other children in her community would suffer from malnutrition like their parents, and would likely skip lots of school because of it. Thankfully everything changed. When Food for the Hungry entered her community, the parents were equipped with the skills, knowledge, and tools to better care for their children.
