Our commitment to Scripture:
The Bible, uniquely and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16), is the infallible Word of God, a complete and unified witness to God’s redemptive acts culminating in the incarnation of the Living Word, the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:1-5, 14; 5:24, 39).
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell (the realm of the dead); on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic (universal) Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
Jesus said (Matthew 22:37 ESV): “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.” Jesus further said (Matthew 5:17 ESV), “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”
The Ten Commandments are a succinct, non-exhaustive summary of God’s timeless moral law, fulfilled by Jesus and, though not the basis for our salvation, the foundation for Judeo-Christian morality. This brief summary is extracted from and stated more fully in Exodus 20:1-17 ESV:
I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods before me.
You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them;
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy.
Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness …
You shall not covet …
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, [and] the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
