SECURITY POLICY

When Food for the Hungry requests confidential information (such as credit card numbers) on Food for the Hungry’s website, we use a certified and encrypted technology called Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). This technology has proven itself over the years to be safe. It’s actually proven to be safer than using your credit card at stores. You will know you’re on a secure page, because the web address will begin with “https://” rather than “http://” You may also receive a message and/or see a lock symbol to let you know you are on a secure page. If you’re not on a secure page, you’ll be notified with an error message.

This is how it works when you give information on a secure page:

  1. Your information is encrypted at your browser on these safe pages.
  2. It is then sent over the public Internet in encrypted form.
  3. Then tokenized to permanently remove access to your credit card in our database.
  4. Food for the Hungry adheres to the PCI Security Standards.

Gift Policy:
You may send small, flat paper-based items that can fit into a standard #10 size envelope, have a value of less than $5 dollars and weigh less than 4 ounces. We ask that you send small, flat items of this size because shipping is expensive and even small gift items can cause issues clearing customs.
You can send postcards or photographs, however, we ask that you visit here for more details about culturally appropriate guidelines for photos and other images. Please write the child’s ID # on the back of each item that you enclose with your letter to ensure that it reaches him/her.

Best gifts to send your sponsored child:
  • Paper dolls
  • Postcards
  • Pictures of yourself or family
  • Sports cards, individual cards (baseball, soccer, football)
  • Stickers (flat, paper-based, only a few at a time)

  • Coloring pages (single sheets, not books)
  • Please do NOT send:
