Girls in Rwanda’s communities are breaking barriers, thanks to education and support from FH Rwanda programs. Empowered by these initiatives, they have excelled in various fields—Grace, 12, is a top student, Aimee, 12, shines in poetry, Jeanne, 20, graduated from vocational training in tailoring, and Muhorakeye, 23, leads in agriculture. Cultural expectations, poverty, and household responsibilities once hindered their progress, but FH Rwanda’s interventions, such as water projects and latrine construction, have improved living conditions and opened doors to opportunities. Empowering moms like Eva to move from fear to joy

Eva Megawati br Barus, a 40-year-old homemaker with three children, has undergone significant positive changes after participating in the FH Education program. Previously, she had limited understanding of education and often struggled to control her emotions, especially in her interactions with her children. She tended to dominate decisions without considering her children's wishes. However, through the FH program, Eva has experienced remarkable emotional growth. She learned to control her anger and understand the importance of listening to the individual wishes and needs of each child. As a result, she has become more patient and wise in raising her children. Eva has also increased her involvement in her children's education and is committed to providing them with the opportunity to continue their education to a higher level. Furthermore, she has implemented practices learned from the FH program, such as reading books to her children and actively participating in their school activities. These changes have not only had a positive impact on the relationship between Eva and her children but also on the overall quality of her family's education and understanding. Eva describes that the FH program has brought profound changes to her life, improving her family relationships and giving her new insights into the importance of her children's education and well-being.

Bun Boran, a female Literacy Program Teacher from Angkanh Village in Siem Reap Province, lives with her family of seven. Her mother is a grocery seller, and her father is a carpenter. Despite facing challenges like low confidence, limited family support, and barriers to education, she transformed her life through the support of Food for the Hungry (FH). The FH sponsorship program provided her with self-assurance, skills in classroom management, and the courage to lead. Now, Boran teaches both children and adults, advocates for community development through education, and raises awareness about sanitation and children’s rights. Gift Policy:
You may send small, flat paper-based items that can fit into a standard #10 size envelope, have a value of less than $5 dollars and weigh less than 4 ounces. We ask that you send small, flat items of this size because shipping is expensive and even small gift items can cause issues clearing customs.

You can send postcards or photographs, however, we ask that you visit here for more details about culturally appropriate guidelines for photos and other images. Please write the child’s ID # on the back of each item that you enclose with your letter to ensure that it reaches him/her.

  • Liquids, candy, or food
  • Batteries or magnets

Please note, all items should be compliant with airline transport and safety regulations. Gifts that don’t meet the gift policy will be donated to a local Christian non-profit organization in Phoenix, Arizona, that works with low-income families. We will not be able to return them.
