Communities Transformed Through Child Sponsorship

WRITTEN BY Brooke Wente

One of the main ways you can partner with FH is through monthly child sponsorship. We are thankful for our community of child sponsors! Sponsors like you are supporting children, families, and communities all around the world as they overcome poverty. Over the past 50 years, we’ve witnessed communities transformed through child sponsorship.

How Sponsorship Supports Community Transformation

The monthly gifts from sponsors allows FH teams to meet the immediate and long-term needs of communities. A common question we receive from sponsors is: How is my monthly gift used? Your sponsorship gift is invested in your sponsored child’s community.

Your support is meeting the greatest needs of children and families in the community in the areas of eduction, health, livelihoods and disaster response. In addition, you are ensuring the basic needs of your sponsored child and other children are met.  This includes improved nutrition, access to clean water, a better education, medical treatment and more.

We believe the root issues of poverty are best addressed at the community level. Also, we know each community faces different challenges. Therefore, our response in each community is different. Before FH begins activities, FH staff and community leaders work together to identify challenges, and the community assets available to solve those challenges. FH staff and community leaders then develop a multi-year plan to graduate the community from poverty. Through implementing programs, infrastructure and activities children and families can thrive. Watch this video to see how child sponsorship leads to communities transformed.

Your Sponsorship Impact

Your sponsorship is making a lasting difference in your sponsored child’s life. Over time, the relationship you’ve built with your sponsored child means so much. To know someone across the world cares for you, believes in you, and is praying for you is powerful. In addition, your sponsorship goes beyond impacting just one child. You are having a positive impact on a whole community.

Because each community is different, the responses in ending poverty in each community is unique. The video highlights stories of three different sponsored children. For sponsored child Brishti in Bangladesh, sponsor support helped set-up savings groups for mothers. Her mother joined the savings group and is now better able to care for Brishti and her family. Similarly, Inca, a sponsored child in Bolivia, is receiving a better education. Sponsorship support helped make improvements to her schooling. And sponsored child Galgallo in Kenya is able to attend school while his mother is earning more income through her participation in savings groups and raising livestock.

As you seen in the video, your sponsorship is supporting your sponsored child’s entire community. Your monthly gifts are equipping families and communities to better care for their children. This leading to a brighter future for all, including your sponsored child.

Sponsoring a Child

A special thank you to our supporters who are child sponsors. If you haven’t said yes to sponsorship, let today be the day you become a sponsor. You will make a lasting difference in a child’s life. In addition, you’ll help their entire community. Thank you for caring for children and families and helping them to rise out of poverty.
