HOW ONE CHURCH IS BREWING HOPE (AND HOW YOUR CHURCH CAN TOO!)

“It’s the Gospel in action.”

This three-year project is packed with passion!

Expedition Church, led Pastor Donovan Christian, are passionate about sharing God’s love in practical ways. That’s why they’ve partnered with a community in Guatemala who are passionate about coffee-growing!

Called ‘Pulpa y Pasion’ (Pulp and Passion), the project is empowering 25 coffee-growing families with training and resources to help them develop their own thriving coffee business, earn stainable income, and lift their families out of poverty.

Vilma, pictured with her daughter Lucy, heads up the project. Here, she takes you through the coffee-making process.

First, you grow the coffee beans.

Then they are harvested and washed.

(Did you catch the Expedition Church ‘thank you’ plaque on the washing station?)

Then the beans are spread out on tarps to dry. (Fingers crossed it doesn’t rain!)

Finally, they’re packed, ready for selling.

Pastor Donovan recently visited the community to see the impact firsthand, and shares:

“What we’re seeing here is real changes in this community. The economy is increasing, quality of life is improving…

“We have 25 families, like Vilma’s, who have been participating in this project and we’re going to be introducing more because it’s working so well.”

What’s so great about this project is Expedition Church’s care is changing lives through coffee-growing and even more!

The community have also been supported to build water tanks to store rainwater for dry times.

They turn coffee waste, like pulp and plant scraps, into natural compost to feed their soil and improve their crops.

And farmers have planted fruit trees alongside their coffee crops. This means more food, more income, and stronger farms for the future.

Pastor Donovan says being part of this life-changing work is such a blessing:

“For 20 years, Expedition Church has joyfully partnered with Food for the Hungry. What sustains our commitment is simple: they meet real, tangible needs without losing sight of Jesus.

“That holistic approach is rare and we have seen firsthand entire communities move from crisis to sustainability, all in the name of Jesus.

“It’s more than a program, it’s the Gospel in action.”

Thank you, Pastor Donovan and Expedition Church, for your Gospel-in-action care that is helping families grow more, earn more, and build the futures God intends for them.
