Access to clean water has the power of transforming communities.
For you and I, we probably don’t think much about our access to water. We go to the kitchen sink, and water comes out, hot or cold. And it’s usually drinkable, or we have a filter that makes it drinkable.
For other families in our world, that’s not the case. They spend much of their day trying to find water for their family’s basic needs like drinking, cooking, and bathing. And when they do find water, it’s often unclean and unsafe for drinking.
Searching for Clean Water
Amsal and his family live in the highlands of Ethiopia. Drought and terrain made if difficult to find water. They would travel to a river to collect water. Or when it rained, they found pools of water. Both sources didn’t have the cleanest water; it was usually polluted with animal waste. Many times, when the children were searching for and collecting water, it took so long that they ended up being late to school. Transforming Communities
Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, Food for the Hungry (FH) was able to partner with leaders in Amsal’s community to construct a water system that collects clean spring water. Amsal and his family no longer have to search for water. They have as much clean water as they need to drink, cook with, and bathe.
And since they aren’t spending as much time collecting water, the children are no longer late for school. They have time to study after school, too, which improves their grades. Access to clean water has a ripple effect in improving lives. Clean water, which FH provides due to the generosity of our supporters, has the power to transform communities.
